Our Parish Supports Works of Charity During Our Lenten Season
Sacrifice?
Our Lord Jesus states that his followers should be committed
to doing good works and offering charity to those in need. Our members are being
asked to "vote" on which one religious charity or service based institution from
five categories - international, national, state-wide, religious, and local -
should receive our financial support from the 2010 Parish Lenten Season Charity
Tithe.
How will the decision be made as to who receives support? One
group from each of the 5 categories will be chosen on the Fifth Sunday of Lent,
based on the support it has received through the number of quarters parish
members having placed in the coin boxes in the narthex representing that
organization. The money which will be donated to the selected charitable
organizations will come from the use of Lenten Coin Folders, the voting boxes of
quarters and a tithe of our Sunday Collections during the Lenten Season. Voting
for all 5 categories will begin on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2010 and end on
March 28, 2010.
