A Word from Father Desmond
During this time of widespread disruption, when we are observing curfews and unexpectedly spending more time at home, my prayer is that you grow closer to God and stronger in your identity as a disciple of Jesus Christ. My pastoral commitment to you during the COVID-19 pandemic is that the parish staff and I will support you as you seek to cultivate your relationship with God as individuals, households and families. We now have an opportunity to exclusively focus on this essential aspect of building up the Body of Christ.
I will continue to celebrate Masses alone in the quaint chapel where we've regularly gathered for Eucharist through the years. However, unlike other parishes, I will not be recording these Masses or live-streaming them (we will gather together again in due time). I am convinced that this moment is a time for Catholics around the world to be supported as they cultivate a life of faith without the interference of clergy or the limitations of communal rituals. This is your moment to grow closer to God in new and creative ways.
Take time for yourself.
Break open the Word of God.
Engage the spaces of your life that you have avoided.
I, along with the parish staff, stand ready to support you.
Let us all continue praying for one another.
The Word of God will sustain us during this time -- because "the word of God is living and effective" (Hebrews 4:12).
When we gather together again at the Lord's Table -- whenever that will be -- we will be stronger because we used the time we were given to prioritize our understanding that church begins at home.
Your Brother in Christ,
Rev. Desmond Drummer
